Sperl
lived a secluded life in the seventies and
eighties and confined himself to his work in his studio. Although he
won the
Culture Prize of Passau in 1965 and created an almost inconceivable
number of
pictures he was never widely known. It was only after his death that
some of
his works were shown in Traunreut in 1987. So, it seems fitting to
celebrate
his anniversary in this way, hoping that a wider public might come to
appreciate his art.
A
handful of private owners kindly photographed
the pictures of this exhibition and agreed to their publication. They
are to
illustrate the career of this talented and yet so little known artist,
since,
apart from the murals hardly any of his pictures are accessible to the
public.
We
hope a wider audience will come to appreciate and treasure his works.
